Policeman killed in shooting in Landi Kotal, funeral held in Jamrud

PESHAWAR: A police constable was shot dead in the Landi Kotal area of Khyber district late on Friday evening, according to police sources.

Officials stated that Constable Maaz Khan was targeted by unidentified assailants while returning to his home in the Ashkhel area of Landi Kotal tehsil. The incident occurred after he had dropped his mother at a relative's residence. Family members reported that they had no personal enmity with anyone.

Maaz Khan was posted at the Hamza Baba mausoleum and had previously served in the intelligence wing of the local police. No group or individual has claimed responsibility for the attack, police sources said.

The constable was killed on the spot. His funeral prayers were held late Friday night at the Police Centre in Shah Kas, Jamrud. The ceremony was attended by District Police Officer Waqar Ahmad, along with other police and administration officials, as well as members of the deceased's family.

Separately, a peace committee office in Tank city was targeted by a drone strike during the night, police sources said. Further details regarding the drone strike were not provided in the report.
