Balochistan High Court suspends federal quota admissions at Loralai college

QUETTA: The Balochistan High Court has ordered a temporary halt to admissions under the federal government employees' quota at Capt Waqar Kakar Shaheed Balochistan Residential College (BRC) Loralai. The decision was issued by a bench comprising Chief Justice Muhammad Kamran Khan Malakhail and Justice Najamuddin Mengal during a hearing on a constitutional petition.

The petition was filed by advocate Ali Ahmed Kakar, who challenged the allocation of seats reserved for children of federal government employees. According to the petition, six seats in each Balochistan Residential College are specifically set aside for this purpose. However, the petitioner argued that these seats are being awarded to students from other provinces who do not possess Balochistan domicile certificates.

Advocate Ali Ahmed Kakar maintained that the current policy is unfair to eligible children of federal employees who are residents of Balochistan, as it deprives them of their rightful admissions. He further contended that the practice undermines the opportunities for local students whose parents serve as federal government employees within the province.

After hearing the arguments, the court issued an order suspending the implementation of the special admission quota for children of federal government employees at BRC Loralai. The authorities have been directed to halt admissions under this quota until further notice.

The court's decision will remain in effect while the petition is under consideration. Further proceedings are expected as the bench continues to review the matter.
