Four GB Awami Action Committee leaders arrested over alleged anti-state speeches
Four leaders of the GB Awami Action Committee, including its chairman Advocate Ehsan Ali, were arrested for allegedly making anti-state speeches during an Iftar party. An anti-terrorism court granted their remand until March 18.
GILGIT: Four leaders of the Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) Awami Action Committee (AAC) were arrested on Wednesday for allegedly delivering anti-state speeches during an Iftar gathering, according to police.
The detained individuals include AAC Chairman Advocate Ehsan Ali, Advocate Nafees, Meher Ali, and Engineer Mehboob Wali. Advocate Ehsan Ali is a prominent lawyer who has previously served as president of both the GB Supreme Appellate Court Bar Association and the GB High Court Bar Association. He is also a member of the GB Bar Council.
An official First Information Report (FIR) was registered at the Jutial police station under the Anti-Terrorism Act against the AAC chief and the three other leaders, along with several others. The FIR accuses a total of 13 AAC leaders of making anti-state speeches and planning to organize a protest during the Iftar party.
Following their arrest, the four leaders were presented before an anti-terrorism court. Judge Rehmat Shah granted their physical remand until March 18.
The incident has drawn attention to the activities of the AAC, which has been active in raising various issues in the region. The charges in the FIR specifically mention anti-terrorism speeches and alleged plans for protest actions.
Further legal proceedings are expected as the investigation continues.
