Uzbekistan urges expansion of trade ties with Pakistan

TASHKENT: The governor of Tashkent has called for a significant increase in economic cooperation between Uzbekistan and Pakistan, stating that the current trade volume of $445 million does not reflect the true potential of bilateral relations.

During a recent meeting, the Tashkent governor highlighted the need to further strengthen economic ties and explore new avenues for collaboration. He emphasized that both countries have the capacity to boost their partnership across various sectors, including trade and investment.

According to the governor, Uzbekistan and Pakistan share longstanding historical and cultural connections, which provide a strong foundation for expanding economic cooperation. He noted that despite these ties, the present level of trade remains below expectations, and there is ample room for growth.

The governor pointed out that both nations can benefit from increased collaboration in sectors such as agriculture, textiles, pharmaceuticals, and logistics. He also underscored the importance of facilitating business-to-business contacts and removing barriers to trade to achieve higher economic targets.

He stated, “$445 million economic ties fall short of true potential,” and called on stakeholders from both countries to work together to unlock new opportunities for mutual benefit.

The governor further mentioned that Uzbekistan is keen to enhance connectivity with Pakistan through improved transport links and trade corridors, which would help boost regional integration and economic development.

Officials from both sides have expressed optimism about the future of bilateral relations and agreed to continue efforts aimed at increasing trade volumes and deepening cooperation in key sectors.
