PIA increases fuel surcharge on flights as Gulf crisis drives up fuel costs

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has announced an increase in fuel surcharges on both domestic and international flights, following a significant rise in fuel costs attributed to the ongoing crisis in the Gulf region.

According to information provided by PIA, the national carrier has raised the fuel surcharge by $20 on domestic flights. For international routes, the surcharge has been increased by up to $100. The airline stated that this decision comes in response to a 34% surge in fuel prices, which has been linked to the current instability in the Gulf.

The airline explained that the escalation in fuel costs has affected operational expenses, necessitating an adjustment in surcharges to partially offset the impact. PIA officials noted that the new surcharges will apply to all tickets issued from the date of the announcement onward. The revised rates are intended to help the airline manage the financial pressures resulting from the increased cost of aviation fuel.

The Gulf region, a key supplier of fuel to global markets, has experienced disruptions due to the ongoing crisis. This has led to a sharp increase in fuel prices internationally, with airlines worldwide facing higher operational costs as a result.
