Four arrested in Karachi DHA call centre raid over alleged financial fraud

KARACHI: The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) conducted a raid on a call centre located in the Defence Housing Authority (DHA) Phase-II Extension, resulting in the arrest of four individuals suspected of involvement in financial fraud activities.

NCCIA Additional Director Mohammed Tariq Nawaz stated on Wednesday that the operation took place on Tuesday, leading to the detention of Mohammed Shah Bukhari, Uzair Shehzad, Rohit Kumar, and Yougesh Rajesh. During the raid, authorities seized various digital devices. According to Mr. Nawaz, an initial technical examination of these devices revealed evidence of the suspects' participation in financial fraud schemes.

Mr. Nawaz further disclosed that spoofing software, which is commonly used in such criminal activities, was recovered from the premises. Additionally, data linked to financial institutions and banking information belonging to foreign nationals was also found during the investigation.

The detained suspects reportedly informed the NCCIA that the data related to foreign nationals' bank accounts had been supplied by the owner of the call centre, identified as Syed Abu Bakar, along with his partner. The investigation into the matter is ongoing as authorities continue to examine the seized materials and pursue further leads.

The NCCIA has not yet released additional details regarding the whereabouts of the call centre owner or his partner. The agency is expected to continue its probe to determine the full extent of the alleged financial fraud and identify any other individuals who may be involved.
