Tehran – Conflicting accounts have surfaced regarding whether Iran will permit India-flagged oil tankers to transit the Strait of Hormuz, a key maritime chokepoint for global energy shipments.
According to a report citing an Indian source, Iran has agreed to allow tankers flying the Indian flag to pass through the strategic waterway.
However, an Iranian source based outside the country has denied that any such arrangement has been reached. The source stated that there is no agreement in place between Iran and India regarding the passage of India-flagged tankers through the Strait of Hormuz.
The Strait of Hormuz is a critical route for the transportation of oil and gas, with a significant portion of the world’s energy supplies passing through its narrow waters. Tensions in the region have previously led to concerns over the security of shipping lanes and the uninterrupted flow of energy resources.
The discrepancy between the accounts from the Indian and Iranian sources highlights ongoing uncertainty about the status of negotiations or understandings between the two countries on maritime transit issues.
As of now, no official statements from either the Iranian or Indian governments have been reported regarding this matter. The situation remains unclear, with both sides providing differing accounts of the existence of any agreement.
