PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has announced a series of fuel conservation measures to be implemented over the next two months, in response to the ongoing global fuel crisis attributed to the US-Israel conflict with Iran.
According to an official handout released on Monday, the provincial cabinet convened to approve the "Fuel Conservation and Responsible Governance Initiative." The statement quoted Shafi Jan, Special Assistant to the Chief Minister on Information and Public Relations, who explained that the measures were being introduced under the instructions of KP Chief Minister Sohail Afridi.
Jan stated that the government would monitor the situation closely to determine whether the conservation measures should be extended beyond the initial two-month period. As part of the initiative, the cabinet approved a 25 percent reduction in the fuel allowance for government vehicles. This latest cut brings the total reduction to 50 percent, as a previous 25 percent reduction had already been in effect since the Covid-19 pandemic.
The decision comes amid rising concerns over fuel availability and costs, with the provincial administration seeking to set an example of responsible governance and resource management. The government has indicated that it will continue to assess the evolving global situation and make further adjustments if necessary.
Special Assistant Shafi Jan emphasized the importance of these measures, stating that they are part of a broader effort to address the challenges posed by the international fuel crisis and to ensure prudent use of public resources.
