Tehran — Amid heightened regional tensions following US-Israeli attacks on Iran, a senior Iranian military official has issued a warning that Israel’s Dimona nuclear site could become a target if efforts towards “regime change” are pursued by the US and Israel.
The official, speaking to the Iranian website Iran Nuances and later reported by Iran’s semi-official ISNA news agency, stated, “If the US and Israel pursue a ‘regime change’ scenario in practice, Tehran’s ‘final effective missiles will target the Dimona nuclear reactor and all regional energy infrastructure,’” adding, “This is a scenario we have already prepared for.”
This warning comes as Iran has launched a series of drone and missile strikes targeting Israel and Gulf countries that host US military assets. These developments have raised concerns about the potential for a broader regional conflict. According to reports, the death toll from the US-Israeli attacks on Iran has reportedly surpassed 1,000.
Significance of Dimona
The Dimona nuclear site is considered one of the Middle East’s most sensitive strategic locations and is often regarded as the backbone of Israel’s nuclear capability. The recent escalation has brought renewed attention to the facility, which typically remains a muted topic during regional crises.
Iran’s explicit mention of Dimona as a potential target marks a significant development in the ongoing conflict, highlighting the risks of further escalation involving critical infrastructure in the region.
