ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has suspended a previous order that directed Airblue to pay compensation of Rs 5 billion to the families of victims of the 2010 Airblue plane crash.
The decision was made during a hearing at the IHC, where the court considered a petition challenging the earlier compensation directive. The suspension means that the enforcement of the compensation order will remain on hold until further proceedings are conducted.
The Airblue crash occurred in July 2010, when a passenger aircraft crashed near Islamabad, resulting in significant loss of life. Following the incident, legal proceedings were initiated by the families of the victims, seeking compensation from the airline. A lower court had previously ruled in favor of the families, ordering Airblue to provide financial compensation of Rs 5 billion.
However, Airblue challenged this decision in the Islamabad High Court contending that it was excessive and beyond what the law allowed. During the latest hearing, the IHC decided to suspend the earlier compensation order while the case is under review. The court will continue to hear arguments from both sides before making a final determination on the matter.
