Wealthy individuals from Asia are reportedly reassessing their financial holdings in Dubai following recent missile and drone attacks attributed to Iran, familiar with the matter. The attacks, which occurred last week, have prompted some investors to explore relocating their assets to other regional financial centers.
Two Indian entrepreneurs based in Dubai told sources that they attempted to transfer more than $100,000 each from their local bank accounts to Singapore soon after the first Iranian attacks. However, they encountered technological issues in the immediate aftermath, which initially prevented the transactions. One of the entrepreneurs later succeeded in moving the funds to a Singapore bank account through a different Emirates-based bank.
Industry advisers and lawyers report that numerous wealthy Asians are either making inquiries or taking steps to shift their Dubai-held assets to financial hubs such as Singapore and Hong Kong. The ongoing US-Israel conflict with Iran has reportedly raised concerns about the Gulf region's reputation as a safe haven for investors, leading to increased caution among asset holders.
Affluent individuals typically diversify their investments across various regions and asset classes. However, the choice of where to base their assets often depends on factors such as tax regulations, privacy, and operational convenience. The recent escalation in regional tensions has led some to reconsider their exposure to Dubai-based assets.
