PCB condemns 'agenda-driven fake news' targeting players' character

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has strongly denounced what it described as 'agenda-driven fake news' aimed at tarnishing the reputation of national cricket players. The statement was issued on Thursday following reports in various Indian media outlets alleging that an unnamed member of Pakistan’s squad for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup had 'misbehaved' with a female housekeeper at a hotel prior to their Super Eight match against Sri Lanka in Kandy.

Similar allegations were also reported by ARY News, which named Salman Mirza as the player involved. However, this report has since been removed. The PCB's official statement did not reference any specific news reports or address the allegations directly.

In its statement, the PCB asserted, “Agenda-driven fake news targeting the character of our players is unacceptable and will not be tolerated.” The board further demanded that the reporter responsible for the claims issue a public apology without delay. The PCB warned that if an apology is not forthcoming, it will take all necessary steps to address what it called 'malicious conduct' and ensure such actions are 'dealt with firmly and nipped in the bud.'

The PCB did not provide further details regarding the alleged incident or the individuals involved. The board’s response focused on the broader issue of protecting players from what it termed baseless and damaging reports.

The PCB is prepared to pursue further action if the situation is not resolved to its satisfaction. No additional comments or clarifications have been issued by the PCB regarding the specifics of the allegations or the status of any investigation.
