US President Donald Trump says Spain has refused to allow the United States to use its military bases for operations linked to the ongoing war with Iran, describing Madrid’s stance as “terrible.”
Speaking to reporters, Trump says most countries have been supportive and cooperative in relation to what he calls the mission against Iran. He specifically thanks Germany, stating it has been “great” in its backing of US efforts.
Referring to Spain, he claims the country did not permit Washington to use its military bases and airspace. Trump says the United States could “just fly in and use it” and adds that “nobody is gonna tell us not to use it,” suggesting US operations would not be constrained by Spain’s refusal.
He also distinguishes between Spain’s leadership and its citizens, saying the country’s leaders are “not good” while calling the Spanish people “good.”
Spain has not immediately responded publicly to the remarks. The comments come as tensions remain high over the Iran conflict and as the US engages with European allies on military coordination and access arrangements.
