Survey Finds 40% of Pakistanis Believe Country Is on Right Track

ISLAMABAD: A recent survey indicates that 40 percent of Pakistanis believe the country is moving in the right direction, according to the latest Consumer Confidence Index report for the first quarter of 2026. The survey, conducted by a market research company, interviewed more than 1,000 individuals across Pakistan.

Optimism is particularly higher among men, as well as among individuals from upper-, lower-, and middle-income groups. Rural residents and people living in Punjab also expressed greater confidence in the country's direction.

The level of confidence in Pakistan's progress has risen significantly since the current government assumed office. The report notes that confidence has increased more than threefold, from 12 percent to 40 percent, reaching its highest point shortly after the Pakistan-India conflict.

Despite the increase in optimism, economic concerns remain a major issue for many Pakistanis. However, the intensity of these concerns has reportedly declined sharply across all indicators since the first quarter of 2024. The survey highlights that the most pressing issues—namely inflation, poverty, and unemployment—have seen significant declines over the past two years under the current government.

When asked about the current state of the economy, one in four respondents described the economy as being in a positive state. The report suggests that while challenges persist, there is a notable improvement in public sentiment regarding the country's economic direction.

The findings reflect changing perceptions among the population, with increased optimism observed across various demographic groups. The survey provides insight into the evolving attitudes of Pakistanis towards national progress and economic stability.
