Sahibzada Farhan breaks Virat Kohli’s record for most runs in single T20 World Cup

Pakistan opener Sahibzada Farhan set a new benchmark in ICC T20 World Cup history, surpassing Virat Kohli’s record for the most runs in a single edition of the tournament.

Farhan crossed the milestone during Pakistan’s Super 8 match against Sri Lanka, a fixture crucial to Pakistan’s chances of advancing. He anchored the innings at the top of the order and went on to score his second century of the tournament, taking his tally to 383 runs and moving past Kohli’s previous record of 319 runs set in 2014.

With this knock, Farhan now holds the highest aggregate in a single T20 World Cup edition. The updated list places him ahead of Tillakaratne Dilshan’s 317 runs in 2009, Babar Azam’s 303 in 2021 and Mahela Jayawardene’s 302 in 2010. Kohli also appears sixth on the list with 296 runs in 2022.

Farhan’s innings helped Pakistan post 212 for 8 in their allotted 20 overs. To qualify for the semi-finals, Pakistan must restrict Sri Lanka to under 147 in order to move ahead of New Zealand on net run rate.

The performance marks a significant individual achievement in the 2026 tournament and places Farhan at the top of the all-time list for a single T20 World Cup campaign.
