Senator Durrani calls for national unity government amid rising security threats

LAHORE: Senior politician and former federal minister Muhammad Ali Durrani Friday said it is time to permanently resolve the issue of the Durand Line and there is a need for the formation of a national unity government amid rising security threats.

"Afghanistan does not recognize the Durand Line," he said and added, "The time has come for Pakistan to also refuse to recognize it and to get the Wakhan Corridor liberated so that the people of Afghanistan can attain peace and prosperity."

In his statement, while condemning the Afghan government’s move to impose war on Pakistan, he said that an unjustified attack on Pakistan by the Afghan government under the patronage of Israel and India is not only an act of ingratitude but also un-Islamic and a blatant violation of international law.

By taking this step, he said, the Afghan government has effectively admitted to patronizing terrorists.

Durrani said that by waging open war against Pakistan, the Afghan government has violated the Doha Agreement, and that the guarantors of the agreement should hold Kabul accountable.

He said UN report has already indicted the Afghan government and warned the world that Afghanistan has become a hub for terrorists, from where major terrorist incidents could be carried out in the region and beyond.

Durrani further said that weapons left behind by US forces in Afghanistan pose a serious threat to global peace.

These weapons are being used against Pakistan, and eliminating them is the need of the hour, he said, adding that the world should extend full support to Pakistan to dismantle this US-origin weaponry.

Praising Pakistan’s armed forces for their strong retaliatory actions in defense of the country, Muhammad Ali Durrani said that the armed forces of Pakistan have always acted as a responsible and professional force to safeguard national security as well as regional and global peace.

He said that the Afghan government’s attack on Pakistan during the Indian prime minister’s visit to Israel is clear evidence that Israel, India, and the Afghan government form a trilateral axis pursuing a common agenda.

In view of threats to national security and the prevailing terrorism situation, he called for the formation of a national unity government or a war cabinet to ensure complete unity and a cohesive national approach to safeguarding national interests.

He also urged all political parties, including the PTI, to set aside their political agendas and unite around Pakistan’s national agenda.
