Dr Yasmin Rashid, a leader of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) currently in custody, has filed an appeal in the Supreme Court seeking to overturn the election victory of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Nawaz Sharif from Lahore’s NA-130 constituency in the 2024 general elections.
Dr Rashid approached the Supreme Court on Tuesday, contesting the decision of the election tribunal that had dismissed her earlier challenge to the election results. The tribunal had rejected her petition on December 30, 2025. Dr Rashid’s appeal has been submitted under Section 155 of the Election Act, 2017. The petition names Nawaz Sharif as the principal respondent, along with 20 others, including the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) and several returning officers (ROs).
In her petition, Dr Rashid alleges large-scale electoral fraud, manipulation of results, and the unlawful replacement of the returning officer. She contends that notices should have been issued to candidates before the compilation of final results, which she claims is a mandatory procedure. The petition asserts that polling on election day proceeded smoothly at all polling stations, with her polling agents present throughout the process. Ballots were counted, Form-45 was prepared, and copies were provided to her polling agents at most polling stations, according to the petition.
Dr Rashid’s legal challenge is focused on procedural concerns and alleged irregularities in the election process. The Supreme Court has been requested to review the tribunal’s verdict and address the allegations raised in the appeal.
At the time of reporting, there has been no official response from Nawaz Sharif, the ECP, or other respondents named in the petition regarding the Supreme Court appeal.
