Security scare prompts temporary evacuation of Australian PM’s Canberra residence

Anthony Albanese was moved from his official residence in Canberra on Tuesday evening after authorities responded to a reported security threat, according to local media.

The prime minister was evacuated from The Lodge as a precaution while police carried out an extensive security operation. He was taken to an alternative location for several hours during the assessment.

Australia’s national broadcaster reported that the incident triggered a significant law enforcement response in the capital. Officers were alerted to what was described as an alleged security incident at around 6pm local time.

In a statement, the Australian Federal Police confirmed that a comprehensive search of the protected premises was conducted and no suspicious items were discovered. Officials added that there is no ongoing threat to public safety.

Albanese later returned to his residence after authorities cleared the site.
