Australia has announced a new round of fully funded scholarships for Pakistani students under the Australia Awards program, reinforcing its commitment to education-driven development and long-term cooperation with Pakistan.
The initiative supports master’s level studies in Australia and is designed to build leadership capacity, strengthen professional skills, and promote lasting people-to-people ties between the two countries. The program forms part of Australia’s broader development assistance, aimed at contributing to stability, prosperity, and inclusive growth in Pakistan and the wider region.
Candidates are selected through a competitive process that evaluates academic merit, professional experience, leadership potential, and the ability to deliver tangible development outcomes after returning to Pakistan. Applications are strongly encouraged from women, people with disabilities, and individuals from marginalised communities.
Priority areas of study are jointly determined by the governments of Australia and Pakistan and reviewed regularly. Current focus fields include climate change, women and girls’ empowerment, agriculture, water security, infrastructure, and inclusive economic development, with detailed guidance available through official Australia Awards Pakistan resources.
The scholarships are offered exclusively for master’s programs, with studies scheduled to begin in 2027 at recognised Australian tertiary institutions. Applicants who already hold an equivalent qualification are not eligible to apply.
Each scholarship covers the full duration of the approved program and includes return airfare, a one-time establishment allowance, full tuition fees, and financial support for living expenses. Additional benefits include overseas student health cover, an introductory academic program, academic support services, and fieldwork allowances where required.
Applicants must meet general eligibility requirements outlined in the Australia Awards Scholarships Policy Handbook, along with Pakistan-specific conditions. Candidates must be Pakistani citizens residing in Pakistan, hold at least 16 years of education, and have a minimum of five years of relevant work experience. The age limit at the time of application is 45 years, and applicants must not hold or seek Australian citizenship or permanent residency.
A mandatory Development Impact and Linkages Plan must be submitted, detailing how the applicant intends to contribute to Pakistan’s development upon return. Successful scholars are required to return to Pakistan for at least two years after completing their studies. Applicants with disabilities may apply with a lower IELTS threshold, subject to meeting the required score before the program begins.
All supporting documents must be submitted online, scanned in colour, and organised into clearly labelled PDF files. Required materials include academic qualifications, transcripts, a detailed curriculum vitae, valid English language test results, referee reports, the completed development plan, and a no-objection certificate for public sector employees.
Shortlisted candidates will be invited for interviews, with final selections based on academic ability, leadership qualities, professional experience, and development potential. Successful applicants will be notified in late 2026, with travel approvals subject to Australian federal and state requirements.
Applications for the 2027 intake opened on 1 February 2026 and will close on 30 April 2026 at 14:00 AEST. All applications must be submitted through the OASIS online portal using the applicant’s full legal name as stated on their passport.
