Safety audit of high-rise buildings ordered across KP

PESHAWAR: Director General of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Land Use and Building Control Authority (LUBCA), Hamid-ur-Rehman, has ordered an immediate and comprehensive safety audit of all commercial centers and high-rise buildings across the province.

The directive comes in the wake of the tragic fire incident at Karachi’s Gul Plaza, says a press release issued here on Monday.

DG LUBCA has instructed officials in all districts to initiate inspections of plazas and multi-story buildings.

The authorities have been tasked with ensuring the presence and functionality of fire extinguishers, fire hydrants, and alarm systems.

The DG emphasized that emergency exit routes must be meticulously examined and cleared of all encroachments or obstacles.

“The clearance of these routes is vital for saving lives during any untoward incident,” he stated.

According to the press release, building owners with inadequate safety arrangements will be issued a one-week warning.

Failure to address deficiencies within the stipulated time will result in legal action under building control laws.
