X, formerly known as Twitter, suffered its second major service disruption in just three days, leaving tens of thousands of users unable to access the platform.
Reports of the outage began surfacing shortly after 10:00 am ET on Friday, January 16, as users encountered error messages while loading the homepage or attempting to refresh their timelines. Many reported complete loss of access to core features of the service.
Data from Downdetector showed that the disruption peaked with more than 77,000 problem reports filed by users. The platform’s official page displayed an “experiencing an error” message, while its web infrastructure provider Cloudflare confirmed that its systems were functioning normally.
This marks the second significant outage for the X this week. An earlier disruption on Tuesday, January 13, affected around 25,500 users, raising questions about service stability.
As of now, the company has not issued an official explanation for the latest outage. While services appeared to be gradually returning to normal at the time of publication, repeated technical failures have renewed concerns about whether the platform’s infrastructure can reliably support its evolving service model.
