LAHORE: Pakistan’s veteran tennis stars Rashid Malik and Waqar Nisar received a heroes’ welcome on their return from Khao Lak, Thailand, following their outstanding performances at the ITF World Masters Tour MT200 Tournament, where they proudly represented the country on the international stage.
Rashid Malik delivered a remarkable campaign, emerging as the most successful Pakistani player at the event by clinching an impressive three titles. He secured two singles crowns in the 60+ category and added a mixed doubles title in the 45+ category, showcasing his exceptional class, consistency and competitive spirit. Malik’s dominant displays across multiple events once again reaffirmed his status as one of Pakistan’s most accomplished and decorated senior tennis players.
Waqar Nisar also made his mark with a series of spirited performances, reaching the finals in two events and finishing as runner-up after closely fought encounters against strong international opponents. His resilience, determination and sportsmanship throughout the tournament earned widespread appreciation and reflected the rising competitiveness of Pakistan’s senior tennis contingent.
Expressing his delight upon returning home, Rashid Malik highlighted the pride of competing for the country. “Winning three titles at an ITF event is always special, but doing so while representing Pakistan makes it even more meaningful. The competition in Khao Lak was tough, and I am thankful for the constant support and encouragement from back home. This success inspires me to keep pushing for higher standards,” he said.
Waqar Nisar, despite narrowly missing out on titles, remained positive and focused on future goals. “Reaching two finals at an international ITF tournament is a huge confidence booster. While every player aims to win, these results show that our preparation and hard work are heading in the right direction. I am proud to represent Pakistan and will strive to return stronger,” he remarked.
