ISLAMABAD: National Assembly Secretary General Tahir Hussain on Tuesday tendered his resignation from the post, with effect from January 1, 2026, the National Assembly Secretariat confirmed on Monday.
Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq accepted the resignation, marking the end of Hussain’s tenure at the helm of the legislature’s administrative machinery.
A senior bureaucrat from the Pakistan Administrative Service, Hussain brings over 35 years of experience across district, provincial, and federal levels. Throughout his career, he has served in key administrative positions in Balochistan, Punjab, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan, gaining extensive experience in governance and policy implementation.
His notable roles have included Federal Secretary, Chief Secretary, Additional Secretary, Joint Secretary, Commissioner, Deputy Commissioner, and Assistant Commissioner. Since December 2017, Hussain has been serving as Secretary of the National Assembly, overseeing legislative operations and coordinating between parliamentary committees, lawmakers, and the Secretariat staff.
During his tenure, Hussain played a key role in managing the administrative affairs of the National Assembly, ensuring smooth functioning of legislative processes and facilitating coordination across various government departments.
