ISLAMABAD: Mawra Hocane has shared that the roles she chooses are guided by one simple principle: they must carry a meaningful message, particularly concerning women’s lives. Recently, she discussed her work approach, emphasizing her strong commitment to advocating for women’s rights.
“I’m a big advocate for women’s rights and I try to incorporate that into the scripts I choose,” she said. Over time, she has noticed the powerful impact her roles have on women, many of whom approach her to share how her performances have affected their lives. “I’ve felt immense gratitude when women have come to me, telling me that watching my dramas gave them direction and helped them solve problems,” she added.
One notable example she cites is her drama *Jafaa*, which deals with the issue of domestic abuse. Hocane recalls a moment at an airport when a woman stopped her to share how watching *Jafaa* gave her the courage to leave her abusive marriage after 23 years. “One can imagine the impact a drama can have on people, the strength it can give to women,” she reflected.
Her focus on women’s agency extends beyond her acting. Earlier this year, in an Instagram video, Hocane spoke about the importance of financial independence for young women, a lesson she grew up with. “I was taught at a young age that financial independence is very important for girls,” she said, addressing her younger followers directly. “To all the girls watching, I would say there is nothing better than financial independence.”
For Hocane, earning one’s own money is closely tied to confidence and self-reliance. “No matter how good your family is, how rich your family is, or your in-laws or husband, the money you earn with your hard work gives you a different kind of confidence,” she explained.
Through her acting choices and public platform, Hocane aims to highlight issues that resonate deeply with her, particularly women’s struggles and empowerment.
