PCB assigns major oversight duties to Sarfaraz Ahmed

Pakistan’s former captain Sarfaraz Ahmed has been handed significant responsibilities by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), according to sources familiar with the development.

Sarfaraz has been tasked with supervising matters related to the Pakistan Shaheens and the Under-19 squad. Sources say he will oversee the performance of coaches for both teams, manage their tours, and accompany the sides during training sessions and series held in Pakistan.

The 38-year-old brings extensive experience to the role. Over his international career, he played 54 Tests and scored 3,031 runs, including four centuries and 21 fifties. In 117 ODIs, he accumulated 2,315 runs with two hundreds and 11 fifties, while in 61 T20Is he made 818 runs with three fifties.

Sarfaraz also enjoyed notable success as captain. He led Pakistan to the 2017 Champions Trophy title, defeating India by 180 runs in the final. He recorded a win rate of 70% as ODI captain, guided Pakistan to a 62.5% win rate in the 2019 World Cup, and posted a 78.37% win rate in T20Is with 29 victories in 37 matches.

He last represented Pakistan in a Test match against Australia in Perth in 2023.
