LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz is set to represent the province at the United Nations Climate Change Conference COP-30, which begins on Monday (Nov 10) in Belém, Brazil, and will continue until November 21.
With climate change increasingly impacting human lives and economic stability across the globe, COP-30 is expected to be a critical platform for advancing international climate action—and Punjab aims to showcase its pioneering environmental initiatives on this global stage.
According to a statement from the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), CM Maryam Nawaz will present Punjab’s flagship environmental and climate-resilience projects, including the Clean Punjab initiative, e-mobility programs, and ongoing wildlife reforms. She will also address the Climate Resilient Regional Leadership Meeting, highlighting Punjab’s comprehensive approach to sustainable development.

A high-level delegation of relevant officials, including Senior Provincial Minister Maryam Aurangzeb, is accompanying the Chief Minister.
The CMO statement noted that CM Maryam Nawaz will outline the Punjab government’s vision of “Waste to Value” and “Vision to Global Action,” which have been implemented across the province over the past 19 months. She will detail measures to make all sectors eco-friendly for the first time in Punjab’s history, including initiatives to reduce smog, improve air quality, and promote clean, green urban development.
Among the projects to be highlighted are Punjab’s electric vehicle-based transport systems, including plans to operate electric buses across 42 cities, 120,000 electric motorcycles and rickshaws, and 1,100 electric taxis. Additionally, the Chief Minister will present the province’s plan to launch 10 state-of-the-art digital rail systems as part of the T30 Vision, aimed at establishing Punjab as a model environmental-quality province.
Earlier on Wednesday, CM Maryam Nawaz departed for Brazil to attend COP-30. On the sidelines of the conference, she is scheduled to hold a series of high-level engagements with global leaders and institutions, including the Vice Presidents of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) and the Asian Development Bank (ADB), as well as senior officials from the World Bank’s Climate Change division, the Global Green Institute, and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
The CMO emphasized that these engagements are crucial for strengthening Punjab’s international climate partnerships and advancing the province’s environmental agenda on a global platform. Through these initiatives, Punjab seeks to present itself as a regional leader in climate-resilient development, demonstrating practical solutions to environmental challenges while promoting sustainable growth.
