PMD forecasts cold, wet spell across northern regions from Nov 4

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast a spell of rain, wind, and thunderstorms, along with snowfall over the mountains, in the upper parts of the country from November 4.

According to the PMD, a westerly weather system is expected to enter the upper regions on the night of November 3 and persist until November 5, bringing a marked drop in temperatures across northern and central Pakistan.

Under the influence of this system, rain, windstorms, and thunderstorms with snowfall over mountains are likely in areas including Chitral, Swat, Dir, Kohistan, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, and Malakand, as well as several districts of Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Kashmir.

The PMD warned that isolated hailstorms and lightning could occur during the period, while strong winds may damage weak or temporary structures.

Rain and thunderstorms are also expected in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Murree, Sargodha, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Narowal, and Lahore on November 4. Daytime temperatures are forecast to fall significantly during the wet spell, followed by a further drop at night.

The department said fog and smog conditions in parts of Punjab may temporarily subside during the rains but could return afterwards.

Farmers have been advised to plan agricultural activities accordingly, and tourists have been urged to exercise caution while travelling to hilly areas due to the risk of slippery roads and reduced visibility.

For ongoing updates, the public can access alerts through the PMD’s official website, mobile app “Pak Weather,” and social media channels.
