Landlord accused of mutilating cow in Jehlum district

JEHLUM: A landlord in Mohaal village, Jehlum, is facing allegations of amputating a cow’s leg after it wandered into his field. According to police, the landlord became aggressive when the cow entered his property and trapped it before inflicting severe injury with an axe.

The cow’s owner filed a First Information Report (FIR), claiming that the landlord struck the animal, leaving it badly wounded. The cow was subsequently taken to a veterinary clinic for treatment.

Authorities have yet to arrest the suspect, who reportedly fled the scene after the incident. Police are conducting raids to apprehend him.

Cases of animal cruelty are not uncommon in Pakistan. In a similar event in September, a feudal lord in Saleh Pat, Sukkur, brutally tortured a young female camel for damaging his crops. The landlord allegedly tied the camel to a tractor, dragged it across the ground, and beat it, resulting in a broken leg and facial injuries.

In another incident from June 2024, two camels in Sindh were also mutilated, losing their legs in separate cases from Sanghar and Kunri tehsil.
