Punjab Highway Patrol PHP promotes 246 officers to rank of T/ASI

LAHORE: In a landmark moment for the Punjab Highway Patrol (PHP), a formal rank-pinning ceremony was held at its Lahore Headquarters to honor officers promoted to the post of T/ASI—the first large-scale departmental promotion in the force’s 21-year history, according to a statement issued after the ceremony.

A spokesperson for the Police Department said that a total of 246 head constables and constables were elevated under the P-Cadet Scheme through the Punjab Public Service Commission (PPSC) examination.

DIG PHP Dr. Muhammad Athar Waheed pinned ranks on the newly promoted officers, while 21 officers from the PHP Lahore Region also received their promotion insignia. The ceremony drew a large gathering of families, including the parents and children of the promoted personnel, making it a memorable and emotional occasion.

IG Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar and DIG PHP Dr. Athar Waheed congratulated the officers and their families, emphasizing that promotions must translate into selfless public service. The IG urged the officers to maintain close coordination with the constabulary, address their concerns, and focus on professional grooming, while upholding a zero-tolerance policy against corruption and misconduct.

DIG Dr. Athar Waheed extended his gratitude to Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif and IG Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar for their continued support of the department. The event was attended by SP Headquarters PHP Dr. Anam Faryal Afzal, Regional Officer Lahore Region SP Fatah Ahmad, Deputy Director PHP Ghulam Mohiuddin, and other senior officials.

Elite Police Training School wins Inter-Range Rifle Competition

In a separate development, the Elite Police Training School Bedian secured top honors in the Punjab Police Inter-Range Rifle Shooting Competition held in Lahore. Ten teams from various police regions and units participated, including trainee DSPs from Sindh Police.

Constable Muhammad Javed clinched first position, while Head Constable Muhammad Abbas secured second place for the Elite School team. Commandant Lieutenant Colonel Khalid Salman distributed prizes among the winners, noting that such contests enhance professional skills and ensure preparedness for real-life emergency response.

IG Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar lauded the winning team for their exceptional performance, saying the Punjab Police shooting team has consistently demonstrated its expertise in both national and international competitions.
