ISLAMABAD: Former senator Mushtaq Ahmed, recently released from Israeli detention, has joined the opposition alliance Tehreek-e-Tahafuz Ayeen-e-Pakistan (TTAP), days after parting ways with Jamaat-e-Islami (JI).
Ahmed met TTAP chief Mahmood Khan Achakzai and Allama Nasir Abbas on Saturday, where they discussed the country’s political situation and the need to uphold the constitution and rule of law.
A formal announcement of his inclusion in TTAP is expected soon.
TTAP, formed in April this year, is an alliance of six opposition parties, including Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Pashtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PKMAP), Balochistan National Party (BNP-M), Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC), and Majlis-e-Wahdat-ul-Muslimeen (MWM). The coalition is led by PKMAP chief Mahmood Khan Achakzai.
Mushtaq Ahmed’s decision to join TTAP follows his return to Pakistan after being freed from Israeli custody earlier this month.
