SWAT: At least 15 members of a single family were killed and eight others injured early Thursday when a truck heading to Punjab overturned on the Swat Motorway, rescue officials said.
According to Malakand Rescue 1122 spokesperson Shafiqa Gul, the accident occurred near tunnel No. 3 when the truck carrying the family from Gabral in Bahrain tehsil lost control and flipped over.
“The dead include men, women, and children,” the official said, adding that rescue teams and Motorway police immediately reached the site to conduct relief operations.
The injured were shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital in Batkhela, where doctors confirmed 15 fatalities. Four of the injured are said to be in critical condition and have been referred to Swat for advanced treatment.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi and Governor Faisal Karim Kundi expressed sorrow over the tragedy and conveyed condolences to the bereaved family. The governor described the loss of life as an “irreparable tragedy” and prayed for the swift recovery of the injured.
Road accidents remain frequent across Pakistan due to reckless driving, poor road safety standards, and vehicle maintenance issues. In recent months, multiple fatal crashes have been reported in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including incidents in Dera Ismail Khan, Mansehra, and Haripur.
