Pak-Kazakh forces launch anti-terror exercise to boost defence ties

CHERAT: Pakistan and Kazakhstan have commenced a two-week joint counterterrorism exercise aimed at enhancing operational coordination and deepening military cooperation, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said on Thursday.

The exercise, titled Dostarym-V, began earlier this week at the Special Operations School in Cherat and will continue until October 24. Elite units from Pakistan’s Special Services Group (SSG) and Kazakhstan’s Special Forces are taking part in the drills, which focus on counterterror operations and tactical interoperability.

According to the military’s media wing, the exercise is designed to refine professional skills through combined training and to “further strengthen the historic military-to-military relationship between the two friendly nations.”

The opening ceremony was held on Tuesday, marking the start of a series of joint field exercises, tactical simulations, and operational exchanges.

The ISPR noted that such engagements not only promote mutual learning but also contribute to broader regional security and stability.

Pakistan routinely conducts joint military exercises with countries across Asia, the Middle East, and beyond to bolster defence partnerships and share expertise in counterterrorism and peacekeeping operations.

The Dostarym series forms part of ongoing bilateral cooperation between Islamabad and Astana. In April this year, Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir visited Kazakhstan and held detailed talks with Defence Minister Colonel General Ruslan on regional security and defence collaboration.

Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to expanding military cooperation and working together for peace and stability in the region.
