UAE to deploy AI-powered cars to track visa and residency violators

The UAE is set to introduce a fleet of AI-powered inspection vehicles designed to identify visa and residency violators. Unveiled by the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs, and Ports Security (ICP) at GITEX Global 2025, the new vehicles will revolutionize the monitoring process.

These electric cars, with a 680-kilometer range, will use advanced AI systems for real-time monitoring and analysis, enabling officers to detect violations instantly. The vehicles are equipped with six high-resolution cameras that provide 360-degree coverage, allowing the system to function effectively in all weather and lighting conditions, including nighttime and dust storms.

The AI system inside the vehicle uses facial recognition to match live footage with the national database. Upon detecting a match, an immediate alert is sent, allowing swift action. The system connects directly to ICP’s databases for rapid decision-making and ensures data accuracy.

ICP Director-General Major General Suhail Saeed Al Khaili described the initiative as a “revolutionary step in field inspection methods,” aiming to empower inspection teams with smart tools to efficiently handle violations.

The ICP also presented other AI-based innovations at GITEX, including the Smart Faceprint digital identity system, an AI-powered voice service capable of handling over 20,000 calls daily, and a unified platform for domestic worker services. These projects align with the UAE’s goal to integrate technology into governance, enhancing security, sustainability, and citizen services.
