GUJRAT: An 85-year-old woman was allegedly murdered and robbed of gold jewelry valued at Rs. 1.2 million in Chandala village within the Daulat Nagar police limits, Punjab, police said on Monday.
According to the FIR, complainant Falak Sher, a furniture shop owner from the Lalamusa area, stated that his elderly parents lived in a separate house next to his own.
On October 5, his brother Amjad discovered their mother, Shah Begum, lying dead in the bathroom with visible bruises on her neck. Believing she had accidentally fallen and sustained a fatal injury, the family buried her in the local graveyard.
However, six days later, on October 11, the family realized that four tolas of gold jewelry were missing from her belongings. A neighbor later informed them that a man named Shahzaib alias Shebbi, who lived nearby, was seen leaving the victim’s house about an hour before she was found dead.
Falak Sher accused the suspect of strangling his mother and stealing her jewelry. Police have registered a case under Sections 302 (murder) and 386 (extortion) of the Pakistan Penal Code and launched an investigation.
Officials said the inquiry may require exhuming the victim’s body to confirm the cause of death through an autopsy. Forensic tests and medical examinations will help determine the exact circumstances surrounding the incident.
