Punjab sees 10 dead, 1,433 injured in road crashes within 24 hours

LAHORE: At least 10 people were killed and 1,433 others injured in 1,213 road traffic crashes across Punjab during the past 24 hours, the Emergency Services Department (ESD) said on Sunday.

Of the injured, 625 were shifted to hospitals with serious wounds, while 808 victims received on-site medical aid from Rescue teams, reducing pressure on health facilities.

The department reported that motorbikes were involved in 76 percent of the incidents, underscoring the need for stricter traffic law enforcement and lane discipline.

The data showed that among the victims were 840 drivers, 52 underage motorists, 157 pedestrians and 446 passengers.

Lahore topped the list with 254 accidents that left 310 people affected. Multan followed with 80 crashes and 90 victims, while Faisalabad recorded 74 accidents involving 88 people.

In total, 1,443 people were affected—1,201 men and 242 women. Age-wise, 319 victims were under 18, 757 between 18 and 40, and 367 above 40 years.

The crashes involved 1,207 motorcycles, 140 cars, 95 auto-rickshaws, 24 vans, 15 passenger buses, 30 trucks and 114 other vehicles, including slow-moving carts.
