Six family members killed in Nawabshah ambush

NAWABSHAH: Six members of the Bhungwar community were killed in an ambush near Qainchi Pull Gujarwah on Thursday morning. The victims were on their way to a local court for a hearing related to a decade-old murder case when armed assailants attacked them.

The victims, who were riding motorcycles, were shot dead on the spot by the gunmen, who then fled the scene. Local police, along with rescuers, moved the bodies to Peoples Medical College and Hospital for post-mortem examinations before handing them over to their families for burial.

SSP Shabbir Sethar confirmed that the ambush was the result of an old feud within the Bhungwar tribe. The deceased were identified as Shehbaz, Taj, Habdar, Rajab Ali, Qurban Ali, and Farman Ali. They were all residents of Goth Ishaq Bhungwar.

Police have arrested seven suspects, including the prime accused, Ismail Bhungwar, in connection with the murders. Authorities also demolished the suspects’ houses as part of punitive measures. A case has been registered, and investigations are ongoing.

Sources revealed that the incident is linked to a 2010 murder case in which the victims had been accused of killing three men, including the father of the prime suspect. The victims were out on bail and were heading to the court for a hearing when they were attacked.

The funerals for the victims took place in their ancestral village, Goth Ishaq Bhungwar, and were attended by hundreds of mourners, including PPP MPA Javed Chaudhry and senior police officials.

PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari expressed condolences over the incident, while Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah ordered the provincial police chief to submit a report and ensure justice for the victims.
