CM Gandapur files petition in PHC for PTI recognition

PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur has approached the Peshawar High Court (PHC) with a writ petition, seeking official recognition of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) as a political party.

The petition names the federal government, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), and other relevant authorities as respondents, challenging Section 94(4) of the Election Rules 2017. Gandapur argues that this section contradicts the Election Act 2017.

The petition asserts that PTI remains a functional political entity with a majority in the K-P Assembly. However, the ECP has excluded PTI from the definition of a political party, citing its lack of an electoral symbol.
