Nippon Foundation donates 92 books to NUTECH under “Read Japan Project”

ISLAMABAD: The Embassy of Japan in Pakistan, in partnership with the Nippon Foundation, has donated a collection of 92 books to the National University of Technology (NUTECH) Islamabad as part of the “Read Japan Project.”

The initiative is aimed at fostering a deeper understanding of Japan’s culture, politics, economics, and history among Pakistani students and faculty members.

On June 27, 2025, Japanese Ambassador to Pakistan, H.E. Mr. AKAMATSU Shuichi, presented the books to NUTECH’s Rector, Lt. General (Retd) Mr. Moazzam Ejaz, at a ceremony held on the university’s premises. The books, written in English, cover various topics, including Japan’s history, politics, economy, security, literature, art, and culture.

In his remarks, Ambassador AKAMATSU praised the university for its educational contributions and emphasized the significance of the books in enhancing students’ understanding of Japan. “These books will provide valuable insights into Japan’s rich history, vibrant culture, and technological advancements,” he said.

Ambassador AKAMATSU also recognized NUTECH’s role in facilitating people-to-people exchanges between Japan and Pakistan, particularly highlighting the university’s participation in Japan’s Technical Intern Training Program (TITP), which provides Pakistani students with internship opportunities in Japan.

Lt. General (Retd) Moazzam Ejaz, the Rector of NUTECH, expressed gratitude to the Nippon Foundation and the Embassy of Japan for their generous donation. He emphasized the potential for these resources to strengthen the academic ties between Japan and Pakistan, encouraging students to learn more about Japan’s contributions to global progress.

The “Read Japan Project” was launched by the Nippon Foundation in 2008 with the goal of promoting Japan’s understanding worldwide through the donation of English-language books to universities and libraries.
