Prison reforms aim to create safer, rehabilitative environment for inmates

KARACHI: Inspector General (IG) of Prisons, Fida Hussain Mastoi, emphasized the importance of improving prison conditions to foster a safer and more rehabilitative environment for inmates. During a visit to the Youth Offenders Industrial School (Juvenile Jail) and the Central Jail for Women, IG Mastoi, accompanied by Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Sheeba Shah, reviewed the facilities and ongoing rehabilitation programs, which include computer literacy, beauty salon training, and access to medical services, a gym, library, and interview area.

The inspection also focused on food supply systems and medical facilities available to inmates. IG Mastoi stressed the need to align prison accommodations, healthcare, and vocational training with modern standards, enhancing both the safety and organization of the environment. He highlighted the significance of digitalization, improved surveillance, and transparent administration to ensure the rehabilitation of prisoners while safeguarding their rights.

The visit underscored the IG’s commitment to reforming and modernizing Sindh’s prison system, prioritizing the welfare and rehabilitation of prisoners through updated practices.
