KW&SC, Rangers launch crackdown on organised water theft in Karachi

KARACHI: The Karachi Water & Sewerage Corporation (KW&SC), in coordination with Pakistan Rangers, has launched a targeted operation against organised water theft in the Manghopir area, focusing on the illegal extraction and sale of municipal water.

The operation, led by the Anti-Water Theft Cell, dismantled unauthorised connections in Ramzan Goth and Zebo Goth, where water was being siphoned through illegal pipelines linked to the main supply lines. These connections were traced and disconnected during the raid.

Officials have identified Pakhtoonabad as the next target of the ongoing crackdown, citing repeated incidents of water theft in that area. Despite earlier cases against offenders, the illegal practice has continued due to alleged political protection.

Key suspects named in the operation include Gul Dad, Mian Dad, Obaidullah, and Pervaiz Mama. According to officials, the accused had installed illegal connections on public pipelines, stored the water in underground reservoirs within their homes, and sold it across the city via tankers.

Authorities say this activity caused major financial losses and disrupted fair water distribution. KW&SC officials have pledged to intensify their operations against such networks, with further actions expected as investigations expand.
