KARACHI: A fire broke out in an electronics market building near Regal Chowk, Saddar, on Monday, destroying electronic items stored in shops and godowns. The blaze, which started on the ground floor of a multi-storey commercial building, quickly spread to the upper levels in a densely packed lane.
Firefighting teams from the KMC Fire Brigade and Rescue 1122 worked for over two hours to control the flames. They were supported by five fire tenders, two water bowsers, a snorkel, and a fire truck from Rescue 1122. Due to narrow alleys and limited access, firefighters had to launch their operation from the rear side of the building.
The thick smoke and poor visibility added to the challenges, but the teams successfully managed to bring the fire under control. Chief Fire Officer Humayun Khan stated that the exact cause of the fire and the total damage would be determined after the cooling process, though he noted that 80% of fire incidents in Saddar were linked to short circuits caused by haphazard electrical wiring. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
