Poliovirus detected in Hyderabad sewage sample

HYDERABAD: Wild poliovirus has been detected in a sewage sample from Hyderabad, according to a report from the Regional Reference Laboratory for Polio Eradication at the National Institute of Health (NIH) in Islamabad. The sample, collected from sewage pumping stations in the City and Qasimabad areas, tested positive for the virus for the fifth time this year.

Pakistan remains one of the two countries, along with Afghanistan, where polio is still considered an endemic viral infection.
