LAHORE: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif held discussions with Iranian President Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Saturday regarding Israel’s unprovoked military actions against Iran.
The prime minister reaffirmed Pakistan’s strong support for Iran, condemning Israel’s attacks as violations of Iran’s sovereignty and a threat to both regional and global peace. He emphasized that, under Article 51 of the UN Charter, Iran had the right to defend itself. Sharif also expressed condolences to President Pezeshkian for the loss of lives in the Israeli strikes, highlighting Pakistan’s support at the UN Security Council’s emergency meeting the previous day.
Sharif denounced Israel’s military provocations, calling them a grave risk to peace and stability. He urged the international community and the United Nations to take immediate and effective action to curb Israel’s aggressive behavior, stressing Pakistan’s commitment to peace and its readiness to contribute toward regional stability.
President Pezeshkian thanked Sharif for Pakistan’s unwavering solidarity, particularly during the UN Security Council’s discussion. He criticized the United States for supporting Israel despite ongoing nuclear negotiations with Iran, labeling the US’s actions as dishonest and unreliable. He warned of a stronger response from Iran if Israel’s aggression persisted.
In a separate conversation, Prime Minister Sharif and President Erdogan condemned Israel’s military strikes on Iran as a blatant violation of international law and a direct threat to peace in the region. Both leaders called on the international community to pressure Israel to cease its aggressive actions.
Furthermore, Pakistan’s Defense Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif called for an emergency meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to formulate a joint strategy in response to Israel’s ongoing aggression. He warned that the lack of unity among Muslim nations would lead to further escalation and insecurity in the region. Asif also emphasized the importance of strong leadership and unity among Muslim countries to combat Israeli military actions.
The prime minister pledged that Pakistan would continue to work actively within the UN Security Council and other international platforms, such as the OIC, to ensure peace and stability in the region.
