King Charles, 76, surprised a 101-year-old war veteran with an unexpected piece of health advice during his visit to Lancashire on Monday. While attending a ceremony of keys outside Lancaster Castle, the monarch met Richard Brock, a D-Day landings veteran. After learning Brock’s age, Charles praised him, saying, “You are fantastic,” and jokingly added, “Keep drinking the whisky.”
Brock, who served with the East Lancashire Regiment, recalled the encounter, noting how the King encouraged him to maintain his spirits with a “nip of whisky.” His son, Tony Brock, confirmed that the King made the suggestion with a light-hearted tone.

During the visit, the King also interacted with local residents and business owners, despite facing protests from anti-monarchy demonstrators. Crowds of well-wishers gathered outside the castle, eager to see Charles, including two elderly women, Joan Hardcastle, 103, and Barbara Graham, 93, who had made a special effort to meet the monarch.
Charles’ remarks about whisky come after a year filled with public appearances and royal duties, as he continues to inspire and connect with the British public in his own unique way.
