Prince William recently acknowledged the reality of family tensions in a candid exchange during his visit to the Suffolk home of the Army Air Corps (AAC), where he serves as Colonel-in-Chief. While speaking with servicemen and inquiring about their families after observing an outdoor exercise session, the 42-year-old royal asked, “Is the pace of life good at the moment?” When one soldier described it as “a mixed bag,” William responded, “Families okay? See you enough? Some of them might not want to see you that much. It’s a mixed bag sometimes.”
This remark comes just weeks after Prince Harry expressed his ongoing desire for reconciliation with his family. In an interview with the BBC, Harry stated, “I would love reconciliation with my family. There’s no point continuing to fight anymore, life is precious.” Despite this, Harry, who now lives in Montecito, California with his wife Meghan Markle and their children, remains at odds with William and Princess Kate.
Harry has been vocal about the rift between him and his family, especially in his 2022 Netflix special, where he criticized his father and brother, hinting that they may have married for duty rather than love. “The difference between making decisions with your head or your heart,” Harry remarked. “My mum certainly made most of her decisions, if not all of them, from her heart, and I am my mother’s son.”
Meanwhile, William, during his visit to the AAC base on Wednesday, reassured the soldiers that he would raise concerns about their accommodation, though with a humorous twist: “If they listen to me, that’s another matter.” He also joked while serving bacon and sausage rolls at the squadron’s “Archer’s Breakfast,” saying, “Nothing worse than the smell of bacon in the room and you cannot eat it.”
William’s current role as Colonel-in-Chief of the AAC was reportedly intended for Harry before he stepped back from royal duties. William, who previously served as a helicopter search and rescue pilot with the RAF and later worked in air ambulances, continues to balance his royal commitments with his focus on military affairs and public duties.
