Court seeks records in NICVD appointment case as police face notice over alleged student assault

The Sindh High Court on Saturday summoned appointment records in a petition challenging the promotion of Syed Mustafa Hassan to administrator of the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD).

The petitioner alleged that Hassan, originally recruited as an assistant engineer on a mechanical diploma in Grade 11, was unlawfully promoted to Grade 18 without due process. The counsel claimed no job advertisement was issued at the time of his hiring and that promotions were granted despite Hassan’s original duties being limited to maintenance work.

The court issued notices to concerned authorities, directing them to submit relevant documentation regarding the appointments.

Separately, a sessions court in Karachi issued notices to police officials over a petition filed by a student alleging assault by NICVD staff.

The petitioner, Atiya Tariq, stated that she was attacked after attempting to record a video showing her mother being denied treatment. She claimed that a guard verbally abused her and that four men and a woman then locked her in a room, assaulted her, and took Rs50,000 from her purse. Tariq further alleged that police refused to register her complaint despite her identifying the individuals involved.
