KARACHI: A low-pressure system has developed over the east-central Arabian Sea, about 1,075 kilometers southeast of Karachi, and may intensify into a deep depression or cyclonic storm by the weekend, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) said.
The system is currently moving northwards and, at present, poses no threat to Pakistan’s coastal areas. The Cyclone Warning Centre is closely monitoring its progress.
Meteorologists noted that warm sea surface temperatures are fueling the system’s growth. It could develop into a depression within 36 hours and, if conditions remain favorable, strengthen further by May 24 or 25.
