KARACHI: The Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) decided on Monday to operate its public parks on a rental basis or via public-private partnerships, as approved during a general council meeting.
The council also resolved to collect taxes from wedding halls outside cantonment areas, increase fees for pathology labs in KMC hospitals, and impose fines on unauthorized car wash businesses operating near commercial centers.
Chaired by Mayor Murtaza Wahab, the session passed 14 key resolutions addressing administrative reforms and public interest issues.
Other decisions included paying tribute to the Pakistan Army for Operation Bunyan-un-Marsoos, delegating trade license authority to Union Committees, and resolving a land dispute with K-Electric over Railway Quarters.
The council also sanctioned penalties for illegal car washing and unauthorized water use in nurseries, increased imprest limits for the Enterprise and Investment Promotion Department, and revised laboratory test charges at KMC hospitals.
Additionally, a plot in Orangi Township was divided, allocating part to Pakistan Post and designating the remainder for auction or public-private partnership development.
