Saudi crown prince welcomes Pak-India ceasefire, urges dialogue

RIYADH: Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman on Wednesday welcomed the recently announced ceasefire between Pakistan and India, calling it a positive step towards lasting peace in South Asia.

Addressing the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) summit in Riyadh, the Crown Prince praised the diplomatic efforts led by US President Donald Trump in de-escalating tensions between the two nuclear-armed neighbours.

“We welcome the ceasefire between Pakistan and India, and we also support dialogue between the two countries to resolve their outstanding issues,” said the Saudi leader, expressing hope that diplomacy will prevail over confrontation.

He reiterated the GCC’s commitment to regional peace, noting that efforts must also be intensified to ensure a ceasefire in Gaza, where humanitarian conditions continue to deteriorate.

Crown Prince Mohammed also highlighted the growing strategic ties between GCC member states and the United States, describing the relationship as one that is “strengthening” and rooted in shared interests and security priorities.

The comments come in the wake of a US-brokered ceasefire agreement between Islamabad and New Delhi, following a surge in cross-border hostilities and rising tensions after a deadly attack in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).

Saudi Arabia, a close ally of both Pakistan and India, has long supported regional peace efforts and continues to advocate for constructive engagement and multilateral diplomacy.
