PESHAWAR: Aleema Khan, the sister of former Prime Minister Imran Khan, was granted protective bail by the Peshawar High Court (PHC) on Monday. In her petition, she claimed she had been charged in 42 cases as retaliation for relaying messages from her incarcerated brother to the public.
Aleema, who had not been politically active before her brother’s ouster in April 2022, appeared before a PHC bench led by Justice Waqar Ahmed and Justice Farah Jamshed. Her lawyer, Alam Khan Adeenzai, informed the court that Aleema had already been granted bail in all the cases. However, after May 8, multiple raids had been conducted on her residences.
Her lawyer stated that Aleema had been implicated in supplementary reports for 42 cases and expressed her willingness to face the legal proceedings. A request for a 28-day protective bail was made, which the court granted, instructing authorities not to arrest Aleema during this period.
During the hearing, Aleema attempted to address the bench, but Justice Ahmed advised her to allow her lawyer to speak on her behalf. Speaking to the media outside the court, Aleema stated she had learned about the 42 cases during a hearing at the Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in Rawalpindi. She expressed frustration over being targeted for relaying her brother’s messages, questioning why she was being charged when others were not.
The court instructed Aleema to appear before the relevant courts, and adjourned the hearing until May 28.
